Disturbed‘s cover of the Simon & Garfunkel classic “The Sound of Silence” has been met with a lot of acclaim, and it’s now earned the stamp of approval from the songwriter himself. In a Facebook post, Disturbed frontman David Draiman shared an email that Paul Simon sent him praising the modern-rock band’s performance of the track on Conan last week.
“Really powerful performance on Conan the other day,” Simon wrote. “First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks.”
Draiman also shared a screenshot of his response back to Simon, in which he wrote, “I am honored beyond words. We only hoped to pay homage and honor the brilliance of one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Your compliment means the world to me/us, and we are eternally grateful.”
Additionally, Simon himself posted a video of the Conan performance on his own Facebook, calling the rendition “wonderful.”
