Who are the Doobie Brothers?
The best way I can describe the Doobie Brothers, is the band who erased the line between biker gangs and free loving hippies with their soulful tunes.
Interesting facts about the Doobie Brothers:
- The Doobie Brothers formed in 1970 out of San Jose, CA.
- The Doobie Brothers were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004.
- The Doobie Brothers have not been inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
- Before Doobie Brothers, they were known as Pud. Pud was a country/rock band that ended in 1960
- The band name has no secret meaning. the name came from the slang term for Marijuana.
- The Doobie Brothers had a strong following in Southern California. One of the biggest, being Hell’s Angels.
- The famous “Takin’ It To The Streets” was rerecorded with the Nashville based band, Love & Theft for their Southbound album.
- When it comes to songwriting, lyrics usually come last for them.
- In a 1986 Los Angeles Times poll, the Doobie Brothers were the band that readers most wanted to reunite, behind Led Zeppelin.
- The song China Grove, has been featured in many shows including The Simpsons, Entourage and House.
