PROFILE:

Boz Scaggs is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was a guitarist and occasional lead singer with the Steve Miller Band in the 1960s, and in the 1970s gained fame with several solo Top 20 hit singles in the US.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • His real name is William Royce Scaggs, but was given the nickname Bosley by a schoolmate which was eventually shortened to Boz.
  • He was childhood friends with Steve Miller and they attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison together. After playing together in several bands, Boz became a member of The Steve Miller Band for the band’s first two studio albums.
  • In 1980, Boz took a break from music and opened a restaurant called the Blue Light Cafe. He sold the restaurant a few years later and opened a night club called Slim’s which he still owns.
  • His 7th and most famous album, Silk Degrees, sold over five million copies.
  • Boz runs his own vineyard in Napa County, California with wife and they produce their own wine.
  • His son, Austin, has his own music column with Rolling Stone magazine called “The Smoking Section.”
  • Boz Scaggs met a future bandmate in grade school and continued playing with him through college at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
  • He was the vocalist in Steve Miller’s band, The Marksmen, when he was fifteen.
