PROFILE: Santana is an American Latin rock band formed in San Francisco, California in 1966. The band was formed by Mexican-American guitarist, Carlos Santana.

  • Carlos Santana began playing the guitar at age 8. His father was a professional violinist and Carlos also learned to play the violin at age 5.
  • Santana was accepted into multiple colleges; however, he decided not to pursue college but a music career instead. He began by playing on the streets of San Francisco and washing dishes, eventually reaching fame by playing at Woodstock.
  • On his official website, Carlos Santana lists several books that he has enjoyed and recommends to his fans.
  • Santana and his former wife, Deborah, started a charity known as the Milagro Foundation. This charity focuses on vunerable and needy children by making grants to organizations that work with you in the areas of health, education, and the arts.
  • In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine listed Santana at number 20 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
  • He has won 10 Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards.
