PROFILE: Journey is an American rock ‘n’ roll band, originally formed in San Francisco in 1973 by former musical manager Herbie Herbert. With 19 Top 40 Singles and 25 Gold and Platinum albums, Journey is one of the most successful rock ‘n’ roll bands in history and continues to sell albums close to 90 million.

  • The Recording Industry Association of America named  Journey the 25th best selling band.
  • Escape, Journey’s biggest selling album sold nine times platinum, included three #1 hits and went to number one on the album charts in 1981.
  • The band replaced their lead singer five times and had a separate lead vocalist for touring.
  • American Idol’s Randy Jackson toured with the band for a year after recording the “Raised on the Radio” album.
  • Don’t Stop Believin’” was released in 1981 and has become a cultural anthem, still being used in TV shows, movies and Broadway musicals today.
  • The band was originally intended to be a backup group named Golden Gate Rhythm Section but eventually created their own jazz-fusion sound and decided to go out on their own.
  • A radio contest winner named the band ‘Journey’.
  • Billboard awarded Journey the “Legend of Live Award” in 2011.
